“'Hybrid Rose' is a graphic score with electronic accompaniment. It is a meditation on nature and the transgression and beauty of the trans experience; gender fluidity has existed far longer than current gender norms and will continue to exist, much like how our ecosystem has existed far longer than the current systems of agriculture and will continue to thrive after we're gone.
This piece was made with samples from the following pieces, made by fellow musicians in the trans/gender non-conforming community: 'poem for flute and piano' (Kyrese Washington, they/them) and 'A Turtle Named Lovely' (Lam ft. Hantitanti, with vocalist Valentine Hueckel, they/them).”

Alicia Erlandson is a mixed heritage Afro-Latine artist from Detroit currently based in New York City. She is inspired by brief research stints about natural phenomena; using sound to illustrate them fluidly and to connect them to emotional experiences. She hopes to find textures that are sparse, yet deeply intricate; and that engaging with their work feels like a bird flying past your window: fleeting, colorful, and grounding.
